Fatal Trailer Detachment Crash Kills Mother, Child in Luweero Home
A trailer that broke loose from a moving truck veered off the Gulu–Kampala Highway and rammed into a building in Luweero, killing a mother and her three-year-old daughter and leaving two others injured, as police launch investigations into possible mechanical failure.

A devastating road accident along the Gulu–Kampala Highway has left two people dead and two others injured in the early hours of Sunday, March 22, 2026, police have confirmed.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. in Ngogolo when a Mercedes-Benz truck, registration numbers SSD 908A and SSD 909A, lost control after its rear trailer detached while in motion.

The truck had been traveling from Gulu toward Kampala.

According to preliminary police findings, the detached trailer veered off the road and crashed into a nearby building, resulting in the fatal incident.

The victims have been identified as 38-year-old Annet Nandyose and her three-year-old daughter, Doreen Nakkazi, who both died at the scene.

Two others, Samuel Kigwe, an adult male believed to be the father, and Jovan Kalule, a juvenile, sustained injuries and were rushed to Luweero Hospital for treatment.

Police PRO Savannah Region ASP Sam Twiineamazima confirmed the details of the crash, saying, “The trailer detached from the truck upon reaching Ngogolo, veered off the road, and struck a building, leading to the deaths of two people and injuries to others.”

He added, “Our officers visited and examined the scene, and the injured victims were promptly taken to Luweero Hospital. The bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to the mortuary pending postmortem examination.”

Authorities have since impounded the truck at Luweero Police Station as investigations continue. An Inspector of Vehicles is expected to conduct a thorough mechanical inspection to determine the cause of the trailer detachment.

 

Twiineamazima urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, stating, “We call upon all road users to remain vigilant and ensure that their vehicles are in proper mechanical condition to avoid such tragic incidents.”

Investigations into the crash are ongoing, and police say more updates will be provided as new information emerges.
